Young Carers in Schools Award
We are working towards the Young Carers in Schools (YCiS) Bronze Award at North Shore Academy.
YCiS Award is part of an initiative devised by The Carers Trust and The Children’s Society. The award aims to equip schools with the best tools for supporting young carers in schools.
Who is a young carer?
A young carer is someone who is under 18 who helps to look after someone in their family, or a friend, who is ill, disabled or misuses drugs or alcohol. Young carers may struggle to juggle their education and caring for someone else at the same time. This can cause pressure and stress to that particular young person.
Who to contact
At North Shore Academy we have two designated members of staff Beth Gibbon and Jan Atkinson whom young carers can contact and gain support. We can meet face to face or young carers can use our secure drop box to make contact. We have homework sessions or just quiet times in the library where young carers can quietly complete homework or just to have a chat.
We have close links with Eastern Ravens who also give support to Young Carers in the area. https://www.easternravenstrust.org/
